Dayrise is a casual, evolving Kingdom Hearts roleplay board. The admin's been out of the group game a long time and decided to try and recapture the feeling of old forum threads that grew and shifted with the members. Rules, mechanics, plot, and just about everything else is subject to change as we find our rhythm!
Canons and OCs alike are welcome at Dayrise, and the roleplay will operate in a sort of three inches left of center type of AU around Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 3. We hope the initial meandering, slice-of-life-ish vibe is something you'd be interested in, and we can't wait to build up these worlds with you! ♡
Mama calls me cabezon (big head), but my friends are free to come up with a new nickname

Sexual Identity:
Heterosexual
What do you do?:

What do you fight with?:
Sugarskull: A keyblade adorned with sugar skulls and marigolds. It has colorful patterns reminiscent of a Dia de los Muertos festival.
Do you have a specialty?:
As a Fighter class, I combine rigorous training with physical excellence to deal devastating blows
Any abilities?:
Summons:
Pepita - World: Santa Cecilia - An alebrije in the form of a winged jaguar with ram horns, eagle talons, and an iguana tail. Marco leaps up before summoning Pepita and riding upon her for a limited span of time. During this time, Pepita can rapidly swoop down to either pummel through their enemies with her ram horns, grab them with her talons and drop them from up high upon others, or spin her thick tail around to knock enemies away. Her finisher involves her targeting a single foe before diving down to pounce upon them, chomping away with fangs.
Spells:
Fire; Using a keyblade, Marco fires a homing ball of fire at a single enemy.
Cure; Marco recovers a small amount of HP.
Keyblade Combat:
Combo Plus; Marco has extended the length of his ground combo attacks.
Air Combo Plus; Marco has extended the length of his aerial combo attacks.
Critical Plus; Marco's odds of landing a critical hit have increased.
Reflect Guard; If timed correctly, Marco can block and reflect back enemy projectile attacks.
Dodge Roll; Marco dives out of the way to avoid an incoming attack.
Counterattack; Marco swiftly strikes back after parrying an enemy blow.
Sliding Dash; Marco executes a quick slide, swiftly closing the distance to his enemy and damaging them.
Slapshot; Marco performs a wide uppercut slash with an increased chance of dealing a critical hit. Cannot be flung back if blocked or parried.
Stun Impact; Marco powerfully strikes his Keyblade downwards, creating a small explosive sphere that knocks back and stuns nearby enemies.
Vortex; Marco closes the distance between his enemies with a powerful spinning attack.
Finishing Rise; Marco unleashes a powerful guard-piercing attack at the end of a combo.
Once More; At least once per day, this allows Marco to remain standing when an attack should have otherwise put him down and out.
Limit Break:
"Basta! (Enough!)"
Chiaroscuro; Marco stabs his keyblade into the ground as he drops to a kneel, and a marigold-colored barrier surrounds him, shielding him from attacks and damaging any enemies that attempt to strike it. As this persists, sugar skulls made of light and darkness are summoned around him before swiftly swirling around the battlefield, chomping away and damaging any enemies caught in this whirlpool of skulls. In his Final Limit, each sugar skull hones in on an enemy and explodes in a high damage burst of marigold flowers when contact is made.
General:
Lock/Unlock; Using his keyblade, Marco can lock or unlock any lock, allowing him to access any sealed interior, whether it be a locked room, gate, or treasure chest. Its main power, however, is the ability to seal or open the barriers between worlds, as well as to "lock" a world's Keyhole, preventing the Heartless from attacking that world's heart.
Blessing from the Land of the Dead; After his adventures in the Land of the Dead, Marco received a powerful blessing from his deceased kin. This protects him from fatal harm in moments when he may need it most. Additionally, should he come across any spirits or venture into any other underworlds during his travels, his blessing may also grant him favor and/or effectiveness against beings considered undead or spectral.
Any strengths or weaknesses?:
Best Stat Family: Attack Power, Critical Hits, Guard Break Worst Stat Family: Magic Power, Known Spells, Spell Tiers
I can overwhelm enemies easily with my sheer strength, but when it comes to magic I can barely execute the few spells I know effectively
Where're you from?:
Santa Cecilia, Mexico (from Pixar's 'Coco')
Where've you been?:
Santa Cecilia, Twilight Town, Mysterious Tower
What've you been up to?:
One fateful Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), I got caught up in a whirlwind of adventure after I was attacked by heartless in Santa Cecilia. They knocked me off my motorbike on the way home to prepare for the festival, and tried to devour my heart. And, although my soul was forced to leave my body behind, the spirit of my deceased grandmother Lupe saved my life and my heart. During the Day of the Dead, the skeletal souls of our loved ones return to Santa Cecilia to visit and walk among us. And, now that I had entered the spirit realm, I could see them all. Unfortunately, the heartless found a way to enter this realm this as well, and tried to devour the hearts of those who had passed on.
Rather than receive my grandmother's blessing and return to my physical body, I stayed to protect her from the heartless. This was the moment that I summoned Sugarskull, my keyblade. I fought the heartless off, then accompanied my grandmother to the Land of the Dead to put an end to the siege. Fighting my way through the realm of the dead and making companions along the way, I eventually reached the mansion of Ernesto de la Cruz, a famous and beloved musician who had passed on years ago. He had been possessed by the dark forces that were invading the Land of the Dead, but I defeated him and released his soul from their influence with a little help from a mouse carrying a keyblade like me: a mouse called King Mickey.
With King Mickey's help, I sealed the keyhole to Santa Cecilia and kept the heartless out. Afterwards, Mickey explained everything. He offered me the chance to train under the tutelage of Master Yen Sid, a Keyblade Master, and use Sugarskull for good across many worlds. I accepted. So, after receiving a blessing from my deceased kin and returning to the land of the living to part with my family, I joined King Mickey and flew off to the Mysterious Tower. It was at this point that I started receiving visions of a kind stranger from long ago. Although I couldn't remember a name or a face, I knew this was the individual who had passed along their power of the keyblade to me. And so, my journey to train and discover the fate of this stranger had begun.
Got anyone important?:
Marco is a student of Master Yen Sid, although the amount of training he receives from his master is very minimal, as the man is typically too busy or completely absent. Marco idolizes the strength of Master Yen Sid and King Mickey, and has been impatiently requesting to be sent out to other worlds to train/help out. Having left a caring family behind in Santa Cecilia— consisting of his little brother Gael, his mother Maria, and his father Santiago— the only friends Marco has managed to make so far have come in the form of three ducklings: Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Together, they've had their fun playing pranks in Twilight Town and sharing in some sea salt ice cream whenever Marco isn't training.
In the forests of Twilight Town, usually during his private training sessions, Marco has run into a stranger named Xigbar on more than just one occasion. The stranger seems to have a keen interest in him for some reason, but Marco can't stand him. They've sparred a few times before, however, and the young man at least admires Xigbar's skill. Marco isn't sure yet whether to make friend or foe of this man in the black cloak, but he would certainly like to find out where he learned to fight the way he does. He respects a good challenge, if anything.
What are you like?:
Despite being a loner most of his life (not through lack of trying), Marco is always brimming with energy and ready to tackle new challenges as they come. Although many would call him headstrong and brave, however, many others would call him impatient and brash. He also hasn't completely grown out of his rebellious phase, either. The young man still enjoys a good prank every now and again. His street art and graffiti doesn't inspire the sense of someone who's mature, but he could care less about seeming mature or putting on an act for anyone. Nearly his whole life, street art was something he could channel his abundant energy into rather than go out and cause trouble. That was, at least, until he received his keyblade.
Now a Keyblade Wielder, Marco endeavors to practice great discipline in everything he does— but, quite frankly, he's been having a rough go of it. He's still impatient. He still has a bit more of a temper than he'd like. But, after the attack in Santa Cecilia, he's really trying to become the best guardian and Keyblade Wielder he can be. His passion, his undying loyalty towards his family and friends, and his desire to protect everyone speak volumes about the strength of his heart. And, despite the fact that he's not as resistant to the darkness as most would hope, it is for this reason that he inherited a Keyblade. Aside from striving to be a guardian, finding the one who gave him this power drives everything else he does.
What do you look like?:
Marco has light brown skin and a bedhead-style mop of dark brown hair. His eyes are a rich golden amber when exposed to certain light, but hazel otherwise. He has a tattoo of Quetzacoatl, the feathered serpent god of the sky from ancient Aztec mythology, wrapped around his left forearm. He's slightly more muscular than your average seventeen year old. It's easy to tell he endures rigorous training exercises.
When it comes to clothing, Marco has a black jacket adorned with golden buttons and tones of red that he loves to wear daily. Beneath that, he wears a v-neck white shirt. In regards to jewelry, he wears a necklace that holds a small wooden plaque with a decorated skull on it. His grandmother carved it for him before passing on, and he strongly believes she is with him any time that he wears it (which is, to say, all the time). Aside from that, he wears black motorcycle gloves, a pair of skinny blue jeans, and black shoes. Sometimes, he ties a purple sash around his waist.
Have I missed anything?:
If you find graffiti or street art with tones of ancient Aztec influence in some other world, chances are Marco has been there. He never leaves a world without tagging up a few spots first. It's also an easy way for other Keyblade Wielder's to track him back to Twilight Town, his usual hangout spot these days. His art pieces typically include some kind of reference to either: a) him being a Keyblade Wielder himself, b) him being associated with King Mickey and/or Master Yen Sid, or c) all of the above.
